I've come to the conclusion that there are some books it's easy to make covers for and some where it is difficult. Tooth and Claw is clearly one where you can't go wrong -- the Orb cover is a bit dull, but it's fine, and that's the worst cover it has had. The original US cover, the UK cover, the Czech cover, the Chinese cover and now this, are all in their different ways awesome. Maybe the idea of Victorian dragons is just naturally picturesque in the way that the idea of Among Others just isn't. How do you illuminate the idea of a teenager reading SF and dealing with fairies and growing up and loss and life?
I have put all the different covers of Among Others on their own page on my website for purposes of comparison. Ten covers. One cane. One face.
