Friday night I'm participating in a LARP, which I am really looking forward to.
Saturday 10:30am-noon: Feminism in speculative fiction.
How women are portrayed in speculative fiction; how to develop characters, storylines, even worlds that can illustrate various understandings of female/feminine identity, and that reinvent or redefine these identities. I am moderating.
Saturday 12:30pm-1:30pm: Constructing identity
How to flesh out different types of characters, as well as writing to an audience that identifies as fans of speculative fiction.
Saturday 2:00pm-3:00pm Supernatural/nonhuman creatures
How writers create concepts of supernatural creatures or interpret pre-existing myths; additionally, how to write sympathetic nonhuman characters. I am moderating.
Saturday 3:30-4:15pm Signing the Harvard Bookstore with Tamora Pierce.
Saturday 8:00-10.00pm Milk and Cookies Informal reading session
Opinions on what I should read are welcome, and count double if you're actually going to be there. It's a lot of people reading in a relaxed atmosphere, and about 15 minutes each. I could read from anything, and am actually leaning towards reading from something older that I haven't read from in a while.
