Merry Christmas

I don't have anything new for you all this year, but I thought you might like some old seasonal mathoms I have lying around.

2011: Joyful and Triumphant (St Zenobius and the Aliens)

2010: Deep Resounding Joy Robot Christmas

2008: Sing All Ye Citizens of Heaven Above Gabriel fretting

2007: In Winter's Heart, the Dark Turns Back

2005: Traditional, Old Fashioned Christmas Story. It could almost have been in Astounding.

2005: Plea for Inclusivity in Nativity Scenes

2004: Verily the Sky Is Riven With Angels Singing What Joseph Felt.

2003: The Hopes and Fears of All the Years

The tree is up and decorated, the cards are sellotaped firmly to the arch, the nativity is up on the little bookshelf -- this year's highlight is a wild boar eating a basket of mushrooms, slightly to the west of Bethlehem. The presents are packed and put into stockings and festive sacks -- actually only Z has a stocking. The breakfast croissants are risen and ready to bake, the roast leg of cochon au lait for dinner is in the fridge along with a host of other goodies, there's a bowl of tangerines and a bowl of red apples, there's even champagne and orange juice. Everything is ready and waiting. In some ways this is the best bit of Christmas, the breath before, when everything is ready and there's nothing more to do but nobody else is awake.

And as always, peace and goodwill to everyone, today and every day, whether or not this is a holiday you celebrate -- Christmas is just an excuse to remember to say so.
