Convention plans for 2012

6th-9th April, Olympus. First, Z and I are going to be at Olympus, this year's Eastercon. I'm going to be in Britain in April instead of July this year for a couple of reasons -- first that it's now impossible for Z to get time off in the summer and he really needs to see his grandmother, and second is that Thrud's in Florence for a year starting last July, so if I go in April I can go to Florence again. (The disadvantage is that I'll be home in July when it's brain meltingly hot, but I'll just have to cope for once.) And this means we can go to Eastercon, which is at Heathrow at the Radisson Escher.

So, Eastercon! This will be the first time since I moved to Canada. Who's going? And does anyone have a room they want to share?

Potentially: June 22nd-24th 4th St. Fantasy, Minneapolis. I can't say yet whether I'll be able to make it, it depends on factors outside my control. We'll see.

July 12-15th, Readercon, Massachussetts. I've never made it to a Readercon because I'm always in Britain, but this year for sure.

August 3rd-5th, Farthing Party. Montreal. I haven't done a thing about the hotel yet, but anyway.

August 30th-September 3rd, Chicon Worldcon in Chicago. Yay! As I said to [info]beamjockey, Chicago is practically next door!

November 1st-4th World Fantasy. Toronto. I don't usually go to World Fantasy, but I am this year because it's only in Toronto.

And also, I had a thought, which was that maybe some people would come to World Fantasy and stay on for, one week later:

November 9-11th SFContario Toronto. I am a guest of honour and so are Jon Singer and Chris Garcia, and this is going to be great.

SFContario continues to be really tempting-sounding; perhaps this year there will be funds.

I am also thinking SFContario might make it onto my calendar this year.

It's a non-Euclidian hotel; Eastercons have been there before.

That's great news! I decided only today that I would go to Eastercon after all -- and then I read your post. It will be lovely to see you again.

I am sorry to say that some of those factors outside your control look grim. You know we'd love to have you.

Farthing Party in early August, oh, how lovely! Right after my birthday so I can pretend it is my birthday!

I have not ruled out World Fantasy; it will depend on a number of things. I had not even thought of SFContario, but gosh, what a thing.

When you go to Readercon, would you by any chance consider a sidetrip to Albany NY to do a signing at the bookstore I work at? We can provide free lodging (with cats) and some free food, also a discount if you want to buy any books. We are about 4 hours' drive from Boston and have an airport.

More to the point you have a train station.

I almost certainly can't combine that with Readercon, which I'll be getting to in a car with people who can't take extra time off work. But I might well be able to do it on a train some random weekend.

Readercon, yay! I think I will have a celebration of my Answer Year there, since the last time I had a birthday party at Readercon it was a lot of fun.

I'd been vaguely toying with Readercon, but didn't realize it was that close to Farthing Party. Which we should both be able to make it to this year.

See you at Eastercon! And thanks for bringing up Farthing Party, the dates of which I had neglected to enter into my calendar. I have no intention of having 2012 be the first year we miss it, so CALL THAT HOTEL. Thankyouverymuch.

It will be lovely to see you! Though as for the hotel, we've given up our Radisson room in favour of a much cheaper room down the road (we *never* do this at the Eastercon but it's £75 per night instead of £168, in a hotel with a pool). I'll be just testing out my new life strategy of "living off my wits".
