Reason for stopping: the end keeps receding, and I don't want to rush it in a stupid way that'll need fixing, which is harder than getting it right in the first place.

I keep underestimating the number of things that have to happen. I hate it when that happens. This is a longer story than normal, and not in chapters.

Query: when was the episode of Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy in which Zaphod Beeblebrox says "Anything for a weird life" broadcast?

Google and Wikipedia suggest that Zaphod says "Anything for a weird life" in Fit the Eighth, the first episode of the second series, first broadcast on 21 January 1980.

I'm told it was very popular at the time (it certainly was when it was first broadcast here). Here, people who mostly don't do "watch/listen at a given time" stuff were making a point to catch the episodes as they came out. If it was anything like that over there, then lots of people were deeply engaged, and would have been quoting instantly.
