Next bit would be coming along nicely if it were quiet enough.

Well at least it's only for one day. What did you say when they asked you what you were working on? :o)

Window replacement never happens quietly. But you'll have fewer drafts next winter. Did the landlord at least choose a style that'c compatible with the period of the building? (yours is nicely funky)

At our building, roof removal (before replacement) required a stripping device that shook the entire building. It was horrible in the units just below the roof. Imagine a 80 - 100 decibile roar with a high pitch overwhine.
That lasted an entire day.

Balcony removal and replacement later this year is going to mean an entire week + of jackhammers.

We're getting balcony replacement at the back next week.

Our building is becoming like your building.

But actually our old windows worked perfectly well, and I rather liked them. I do see the argument -- that upstairs needed new ones and the whole building ought to match and ours were also old and might leak one day. The new ones are practically the same now they're in, only one piece units -- so no rocks between the layers -- but they still, thank goodness, slide up and down the way they ought to.

I really should put in 4 new windows but I hate the thought of the hassle (and the cost) involved. If I lived in a very cold climate like yours I'd have much more incentive to do something.

Yay, windows! (I don't usually get to say that. *grump* The windows so rarely crash with such satisfying noises.)
